The Pirelli Angel ST Sport-Touring tire, an average sport-touring tire used to be a lot more touring than sport, a sort of rolling compromise that didn’t make anybody happy. Here’s the problem: Generate enough grip for the supersport set and your tires don’t last, but bump up the kilometer-wear and grip evaporates. Not anymore. Since the global tire giants started pumping in more research and development money over the last couple of years, high-end sport-touring radials such Pirelli’s Angel ST tires come closer to doing it all than anything else on your dealer’s rack.

Modern sport-touring covers just about any sort of riding you can do on public roads, which means sport-touring tires have to do the same.

The Pirelli Angel ST tires are designed to replace the familiar Diablo Stradas. They use an evolutionary version of the zero-degree steel-belted radial construction Pirelli developed in the mid-90s to soak up bumps in the road and distribute weight evenly across both contact patches. Everything else is new, starting with a tread pattern that puts more rubber on the ground at any lean angle, pumps water away from the contact patch more efficiently, delivers more stability on the gas as well as under braking – and even doubles as a logo.

The new profile is designed to optimize the amount of rubber on the ground from the entry of a corner to the apex, Pirelli’s latest mix of resin, carbon black and high-density silica allegedly lets the rubber itself adapt to conditions: fast, slow, wet, dry and the various permutations in between.

Choosing anodised bolts when building your motorcycle

by on Apr.30, 2012, under auto accessories

If you are restoring your motorbike, you may have seen or heard about anodised bolts but have been wondering what all the talk is about. Maybe you would like to know what colour you can get anodised nuts and bolts in, or what type of material they are available in. Hopefully this blog post will clear up some of your questions regarding anodised nuts and bolts.

The main decision to make is what metal the bolts should be manufactured from. If you are looking for anodised fasteners your choices are limited to aluminium and titanium. This is due to the fact that not all metals can be anodised.

If the fasteners is to be used in high stress applications such as brakes or suspension mounts, Titanium should be chosen as it has a better tensile strength. If you are fastening dials or the petrol cap for example, aluminium fasteners can be used.

The second important consideration when picking the type of anodised fasteners is the colours that are possible in the different materials. Normally aluminium bolts will have a wider range of colours than the Titanium alternatives. This should however not interfere with your safety considerations, if the required colour is not available in Titanium for a high high stress application, rather opt for a silver or alternative available colour in Titanium or stainless steel.

Some people may wish to avoid bolts that are anodised a colour and opt for the ordinary silver ones. This is especially true when doing exact replicas or similar bikes. Even in this case, the ordinary silver anodised fasteners will have an advantage over normal mild steel bolts, and that is they do not rust or tarnish.

Wilson Cellphone Signal Booster

by on Jan.11, 2011, under auto accessories

Wilson Electronics is a pioneer in the development of cell phone boosters—a line of gadgets that cater to customers suffering from low cell phone signals in their home or office. A cell phone signal booster improves cell phone signal quality by capturing weak signals and directing it to an internal amplifier, which rebroadcasts more robust signals throughout a building or even on-the-go in your car.

Their newest offering, the 4G AWS 60dB wilson cellular booster, is made specifically for the AWS band (most widely used by T-Mobile for its HSPA+ network). This will be the first in a line of boosters for 4G networks. The device offers up to a 60 dB gain, ensuring improved signal strength.

The struggle for better cell phone reception is not only limited to those in rural regions nowadays. The rise in popularity of smart phones that monopolize bandwidths has made dropped calls and poor voice quality a reality even in otherwise signal-friendly buildings. Cell phone boosters easily solve this problem by using an external antenna, usually attached to the roof of a building, which directs the weak signal to an amplifier located indoors. The amplifier then transmits amplified more robust signal throughout a designated space.

There is, however, some controversy behind cell phone signal boosters. Mobile carriers such as AT&T and Verizon have complained that boosters interfere with their own networks by knocking out entire towers or introducing noise caused by oscillation. Although these companies are trying to get the government to ban boosters altogether, Wilson is fighting back with patented anti-oscillation technology that impedes any interference with existing networks.

While the political battle ensues, Wilson is currently preparing 4G cell boosters that go beyond their AWS signal booster. These new cell repeaters, slated for release next year, will be compatible with AT&T and Verizon’s LTE network as well as Sprint’s WiMax network.
