No matter what school of thought you follow when it comes to parenting, the most important thing is to have a solid foundation and a good rapport with your children. There’s little point in trying to work on more complicated issues if this fundamental factor hasn’t been addressed. What happens too often with parenting is that the mistakes made by your own parents are repeated by you when you raise your own kids. This is exactly how unfortunate circumstances are repeated over and over again in a family. However, if you are reading this then at least you are making the noble effort to become aware. You don’t learn how to be a parent in school, so most of us have to learn it as we go along.
The first thing we would like to address is when your child has a temper tantrum that you should not react emotionally. This type of incident can leave some young parents wilted and feeling helpless not knowing what to do. The first must realize that it is a control tactic used by the child no matter what their age. You simply must resist the temptation to give in even if you have a splitting headache. Simply tell them that when they are ready to settle down, then the two of you can talk about the situation. The key to making this work is to always talk with your child after they have become calm. By acting in this manner, and not reacting to what they are doing, the children will realize that doing this will not help their situation.
It’s always best to create firm and consistent boundaries that your children know they have to stay within. The main benefit of this is that it allows children to know where they stand without any confusion. We are also talking about boundaries that must be clearly communicated and reinforced as positively as possible. You shouldn’t be surprised, of course, if a child decides to push these boundaries or ignore a certain rule. While you have to respond appropriately to such situations, you shouldn’t let them surprise or stress you out. Your children have to realize that these are firm principles they must follow, so you have to be vigilant about enforcing them.
They should know that you love and accept them apart from any accomplishments or talents they may have. Parents who expect their children to be perfect are setting themselves, as well as their kids, for disappointment. Doing this can cause permanent injury to the child, which may linger on well into adulthood. When helping your children set goals, then, makes sure that these are realistic relative to their actual talents.
Your children and teens will push you and make you employ as many parenting techniques as you have in your bag of tricks. So during difficult and challenging times, keep it simple and basic.
One thing that you will discover as a parent or guardian is that mishaps take place, and unforeseen things may cost lots of money. In order to safeguard yourself from many of these, you may get insurance. You’ll need to get the maximum amount of insurance as you can, simply because others are dependant upon you. Get hold of your local insurance agent to find out more.

4 Baby Care Tidbits Every Parent Should Know!
by Claire James on Nov.15, 2010, under Transport
You need a license to drive a car, and to get this license you are taught the processes involved to drive a car, but sadly this is not the case with children. Newborn babies do not come with a manual as such so there are a few things you need to know about.
Giving your baby a bath: Although this sounds archaic almost, the baby’s umbilical cord is still attached when you take it home and until it comes off within the first two weeks you can only give your baby sponge baths. You should use a cotton swab and lightly dab at your baby around the umbilical. Use clean water and lightly clean the area – do not be alarmed by the dried blood, this is completely natural.
Transportation from the Hospital: When leaving the hospital it is a good idea to wrap your baby up in a few layers to protect them from the elements. Even the sun can do damage to your newborn baby so it’s not just about keeping them warm. The best way is to carry them but if this is not possible then I highly recommend a strong and sturdy stroller that the best and most recommended are Maclaren Stollers.
Circumcision: Circumcising the baby is sometimes not a choice that you make but dealing with it something that some new parents may find hard. But this is something that should not. The reasons for circumcision are to erase nearly all chances of penile cancer and reduce risk of urinary tract infection, so it is only a good thing.
SIDS, Crib death, sudden infant death syndrome is something that could never fully be explained or understood but is on the decline in a dramatic way. Studies have obviously worked because measures have been taken by informed parents to reduce it happening. All you need to know is to always sleep your baby on her back, wrapped snugly and not too hot.
Transporting your baby from the hospital and everywhere after that, it’s all about comfort and safety. Make sure that the baby car seat has a cover and is fitted correctly for the safety of your new baby
Prematurity makes it more likely that your child will suffer sudden infant death syndrome, but as mentioned, this is something that is on the decrease
The Umbilical cord is still attached for the first couple of weeks and so remember as discussed, that although the bathing process is one that should encourage the bond between mother and child, whilst the umbilical is attached extra care needs to be taken
Most important beyond all this serious foreboding is to enjoy your new baby! Remember that these moments will not last forever and soon you will look back and wonder what happened to the time- so enjoy and cherish this moment
If you are a smoker or there are smokers in your house, then sharing it with a newborn baby is only going to increase the risk of SIDS. I touch on this important subject again because I really want to alleviate the concerns by shedding light on the subject
Some parents believe that sleeping with your baby reduces the risk of SIDS, but the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree with this statement and go on to say that there is a greater risk of SIDS in babies who co-sleep. Besides, this is a really bad habit to get your baby into because breaking it will be a whole new chapter in your life!
Back sleeping is what most pediatricians recommend for babies to decrease the SIDS risk. The reason for this is widely debated between health experts. If you have concerns, talk to your pediatrician.

You are helping their brain to fashion a greater number of pathways, which are the starting point of the fast track for them. Here are a few helpful ideas to help you make the correct option.
The majority of kids books will have a recommended age with it. This is meant to guide you as mothers and fathers to both pick books and also monitor on your childs improvement. Try to remember not to fall into the trap of buying books that are too complicated and puzzle your children. The most effective plan is start out simply and build up from there.
That is definitely a terrific place to begin and sets you off the right way. For younger children picture books are constantly well-liked leading onto literature and reading books. It is handy to commence with a series of books so knowledge begins in a structured approach. It is uncomplicated to progress all the way through the series as each book is completed.
Children have to have delight and excitement in everything they do including reading. So pick books that look visually fascinating along with having a good story. For babies and toddlers interactive books are an easy starting point. With buttons to press for noises and textiles for different textures they delight the growing mind.

5 Baby Shower Gifts That Mom Will Love
by Claire James on Nov.15, 2010, under Cars
With the pregnancy bug constantly in the air, there is a very good chance that you will know someone who is already pregnant or is at least planning a baby. Pregnant women mean shopping, but finding that perfect gift can be a real headache. Here are the best five gifts you can get any expecting mother and guarantee that she will love and appreciate them. The baby shower gifts I list can be used for any occasion but will be a particular hit for a new mom.
1. Nappies, diapers, call them what you will – they are boring, but they are brilliant as a gift and no one ever wants to give them because they are so dull, but this is a pity because every parent i know always talks about the nappies and practical presents before they talk about the fancy key chains and photo frames!
2. Layettes, blankets, socks and burp cloths. Chances are they are going to get tons of these. However, these gifts tend to come in newborn or 3 months sizes which after a few weeks probably won’t serve its purpose anymore. Making this a great gift is if you buy them in larger sizes. After a few months, mom still has brand new gifts for the baby to enjoy.
3.Pamper that new Mom. You can never go wrong with taking care of Mom, because quite often she gets overlooked at these occasions and more often than not she will certainly forget about herself! Let the new Mom get the star treatment she deserves and shout her to some indulgence.
4. Lightweight stroller and Baby Car seats are a necessity, and if you are the one who provies the gift – you will forever be remembered for your generosity. You can also get covers for the baby car seat to make cleaning them easier for the future mum
5. Gift certificates. Seems like the ‘I can’t think of anything’ gift but realistically this is one of the best gifts you can get. Quite often the new family does not know what they will actually need until of course … they need it, so giving them the chance to choose their own gifts is something that they will really value and cherish when they do go out and spend it.
Tip: Clothing seems cute and adorable in the shops, but try and refrain from purchasing clothes as presents. Quite often the parents will be given a lot from friends and family, and will also want to go out and buy their own ‘adorable outfits

Committing Your Free Time To Do Volunteer Work
by Marc Alter on Jun.03, 2010, under Community
Society is dealing with a problem these days where people can’t get themselves to help other people in their community. Plenty of opportunities exist for everyone to go out and volunteer, but it just doesn’t seem to happen as much as it should.
The importance of volunteering should begin at a young age. Every school must have a community service requirement that not only forces a minimum number of hours served, but also incentivizes students to want to volunteer more than that amount.
Moving forward in life, individuals will hopefully continue giving back to the community. However, other things in their personal lives can get in the way of this and not allow them to dedicate the time they once had to volunteering.
In reality, everyone can find a bit of time to dedicate to a good cause and help someone out. People need to develop a habit of doing this and eventually it will become second nature to them.
It might be surprising to some, but both parties generally benefit from a volunteering relationship. The person being helped clearly gains, but the volunteer also tends to feel satisfaction after donating their time to a good cause.
Seeing the happiness in someone’s eyes after you’ve helped them is priceless for a volunteer. The amount of help may not matter as long as you went out of your way to do it.
Setting this example of volunteering for people you know can be just as beneficial to society. The more individuals who you are volunteering, the more likely they will be to join the cause and participate in similar programs as you.
There are plenty of options for volunteering and the tools that are currently in place can help facilitate the process even further. As time goes on, hopefully more and more people will realize the importance of dedicating time to volunteer and make their community a lot better.
Marc Alter has been publishing commentary with respect to volunteer work for the previous four years. In addition, he is fond of blogging on more topics, like NYC date ideas.
